Meta is working on developing a social network that is decentralized.

It has been stated that the technology company Meta is developing a decentralized social network for the purpose of exchanging text updates.

ActivityPub is a decentralized platform that powers Mastodon, which is an open-source alternative to Twitter. According to a report by Moneycontrol, the new app will function using ActivityPub.

Users of the new software will be able to join existing servers or create their own, and the P92 app will come equipped with a capability that will enable users to broadcast their postings to users on other servers.

P92 starts with a feature set that is comparable to that of Twitter, with the exception of the ability to comment on posts and messages.

P92 will make use of already collected data from Instagram, such as names, profile pictures, followers, and so on, for users that join up for the decentralized network.

A source close to the situation shared the following information: “The team is also contemplating whether or not to have the option to reshare material like Twitter aside from corporate and creator accounts.” A rights manager will be included from the start for material belonging to the first party, but it is unlikely that this will be the case for content belonging to third parties coming from other applications and servers.

There has been a growing tendency of Twitter users seeking for other platforms, and several businesses have been trying to benefit on this trend. The corporation has already engaged the assistance of the legal department in order to uncover any possible problems with users’ privacy before the app is released to the public.

Regardless of whether or not a user joins P92, the P92 team intends to access the Instagram data of all users in as open a manner as is practicable for the purposes of analytics, product enhancement, and ranking on P92.

Also, the team is contemplating whether or not accounts other than those identified as corporate and creator will be allowed to reshare posts in the same way that they do on Twitter.

“We believe there’s an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates about their interests,” Meta stated.
