Ubisoft, the renowned game developer behind popular titles like Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance, has been an early adopter of blockchain technology among major traditional game companies. Continuing its exploration of blockchain, Ubisoft has recently unveiled a new Web3 game.
The newly revealed game, called Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, is a PvP tactical role-playing game designed for PC. While the teaser trailer only provides glimpses of the fantasy world and lacks still images, it hints at the presence of mythical figures, suggesting a design influenced by classic board games.

Oasys, a blockchain network specifically designed for the gaming industry, has garnered attention from notable companies such as Square Enix, Sega, and Bandai Namco. Ubisoft has announced that their upcoming game, Champions Tactics, will be built on the Oasys platform.
Notably, Champions Tactics will be available on PC through a standalone desktop program rather than a web-based game. The official website has also teased a “free drop at launch,” indicating that Ubisoft may provide non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for free at the game’s release, which players can use within Champions Tactics. However, it is unclear if the NFTs will have a future use or purpose.
Ubisoft’s previous venture into NFTs faced significant backlash when the company introduced NFT-based items in one of its well-known games in 2021. Many customers expressed concerns about speculation on digital assets, NFT fraud, and publishers attempting to extract more money from players. These reasons have contributed to a general skepticism surrounding NFTs among some participants.
As Ubisoft moves forward with its latest Web3 game, it remains to be seen how the integration of NFTs and the Oasys platform will be received by players and the gaming community.
