Daniel Alegre, the current President and Chief Operating Officer of Activision Blizzard, will take over as the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bored Ape Yacht Club and Otherside metaverse developer Yuga Labs, beginning in the first part of 2023. This was announced by both companies.
According to the announcement, Alegre will work closely with Yuga Labs founders Wylie Aronow and Greg Solano in expanding the company and former CEO Nicole Muniz, who will stay on as a partner and strategic advisor to Yuga Labs.
According to the statement, Yuga Labs has “grown swiftly to help make that ambition a reality,” and the company will benefit from Alegre’s expertise establishing global, innovative, and successful customer- and community-centric companies for more than 25 years.
Alegre has been serving as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Activision Blizzard since the beginning of the year 2020. In this role, he is accountable for the global distribution and marketing of Activision Blizzard properties such as Candy Crush, World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Call of Duty.
Alegre’s prior employment at Google spanned over 16 years, during which time he held a number of senior positions including those of President of Global and Strategic Partnerships, President of Shopping and Payments, and President of Asia Pacific and Latin America.
Alegre made the following statement regarding the company’s products, partnerships, and intellectual property: “The company’s pipeline of products represents a massive opportunity to define the metaverse in a way that empowers creators and provides users with true ownership of their identity and digital assets.” I am really excited to be joining the dedicated and imaginative team at Yuga, and I look forward to working with them to innovate, inspire, and together influence the future of the internet.
